In 2023 alone, the BNDES supported more than 42,000 establishments, 36,000 of them receiving resources from the Workers’ Support Fund (FAT), the Bank’s primary funding source.
These establishments accounted for over 1.6 million formal jobs—approximately 3% of all formal positions recorded in the Annual Report of Social Information (Rais) by the Ministry of Labor and Employment (MTE). This share is notably higher than the 1.0% that BNDES disbursements represented in relation to GDP during the same year.
Given the strategic importance of FAT resources for BNDES, the report includes detailed analyses of their application and impact. It also examines the broader effects of BNDES-supported projects on employment throughout their supply chains. For instance, in 2024, BNDES contributed through the supply chain of its supported projects to the existence of around 709,000 job posts, primarily in construction and machinery and equipment sectors. In 2023, this figure reached 685,900 jobs. When combined with employment at client companies, BNDES’s activities were linked to more than two million jobs nationwide.
The publication further consolidates internal and external studies assessing the institution’s influence on key labor market indicators, such as employment levels, average wages, and total payroll.
Through a multi-method approach, the report underscores BNDES’s role in fostering economic development and strengthening the job market—an issue of critical importance for Brazil.
